Greene County district court, week ending March 3

In Greene County district court Melissa Jo Hefler, 46, of Boone was sentenced March 2 to two years in prison after she changed her plea to guilty to a charge of fraudulent practices- third degree. The prison term was suspended and she was placed on probation to the Iowa Department of Corrections for two years. She was fined $855 with a $128.25 surcharge; both were suspended. She must pay an amount not to exceed $900 restitution for her court appointed attorney’s fees. Court costs were $191.18. (Sentencing: Honorable Joseph B. McCarville)

Anthony James Peterson, 32, of Jefferson was sentenced Feb. 28 to five years in prison after a jury found him guilty at a trial Dec. 8 of willful injury. The prison term was suspended and he was placed on probation to the Iowa DCS for two to five years. He was also found guilty of domestic abuse assault causing injury or mental illness. He was sentenced to one year in the county jail; all but two days were suspended and he was placed on probation for two years. He was fined $430 with a $90 domestic abuse assault surcharge. He must complete the batterers education program and he must complete the Iowa domestic abuse program at his own expense. He must pay $302.50 restitution for his court appointed attorney’s fees and $683.50 court costs. (Sentencing: Christopher C Polking)

Tijera Takenya McQueen, 22, of Des Moines was granted a deferred judgment after she pleaded guilty to a charge of possession of marijuana. She must pay a $100 civil penalty. She must pay an amount not to exceed $600 restitution for her court appointed attorney’s fees and $100 court costs. (Sentencing: McCarville)

Seth Anthony Hankins, 25, of Des Moines was sentenced to four days in jail, with credit for time served, and he changed his plea to guilty to a charge of driving while license revoked. He was fined $1,000 with a $150 surcharge. He must pay an amount not to exceed $600 restitution for his court appointed attorney’s fees and $1,180 court costs. (Sentencing: McCarville)

Brennen Meyer Weiland, 23, of Greenfield was sentenced March 3 to five years in prison after he changed his plea to guilty to a charge of eluding causing injury while intoxicated or participating in a felony. The prison term is concurrent to the terms in two Guthrie County cases. He was fined $1,025 with a $153.75 surcharge; both were suspended. Cout costs were $175. A charge of theft- second degree was dismissed. A companion case in magistrate court in which Weiland was charged with interference with official acts was dismissed. (Sentencing: McCarville)

Richard Dean Tuhn Jr, 43, of Grand Junction pleaded not guilty to charges of dominion/control of firearm/offensive weapon by a domestic abuse offender and in a separate case, possession of marijuana. A trial date was set for May 10. Tuhn pleaded not guilty to a charge of sex abuse- third degree. A trial date was set for June 24 was set in that case. Cases against Tuhn in which he was charged with theft- fourth degree, and in another case, dominion/control of firearm/offense weapon as felon and possession of methamphetamine were dismissed because they were included in other cases.

A case was initiated against Michal Allen Olson, 60, of Jefferson on a charge of burglary- second degree.
